Varkaus site officially opened – Elcoline operations centralised in the historic Pirtinniemi Industrial Area

Industrial service company Elcoline has celebrated the official opening of its new site in Varkaus, Finland. The ribbon-cutting ceremony featured speeches by Varkaus Mayor Joonas Hänninen and Elcoline founders, acting CEO Jere Räisänen and board member Jouko Juvonen. In addition to customers and partners, Elcoline’s staff also attended the event.

The Varkaus site represents the largest investment in the company’s history, with approximately one million euros allocated to production facilities. Elcoline now operates in 5,000 square metres of space at Relanderinkatu 2, a location steeped in industrial heritage. The facilities include a heat exchanger workshop, an industrial maintenance machine shop, as well as auxiliary and office spaces. The site’s 50 employees work in industrial maintenance, installation and servicing, as well as the manufacturing, modernisation and maintenance of heat exchangers. It is also a homebase for additional 50 employees commuting daily to customer locations.

“We firmly believe in the future of industry in Varkaus, which became one of Finland’s key industrial towns as early as the 19th century,” says Jere Räisänen.

“We founded Elcoline in Varkaus in 2002. Today, we are a company of a thousand industrial professionals, specialising in technical services and maintenance for industry,” adds Jouko Juvonen.

The SSG Sahala heat exchanger workshop relocated from Päivärinne area of Varkaus to Relanderinkatu, while Elcoline’s maintenance team moved from Kuoppakangas district. Operating under one roof enhances collaboration between business units and creates synergies that benefit customers through more flexible resource availability.

“Our operations have been based in Pirtinniemi for a couple of months now, and the area has proven to be a great choice. We’ve expanded significantly through acquisitions in recent years, and combining new and existing operations in Pirtinniemi strengthens internal cooperation. We aim to become the leading player in the field and the top choice for both customers and employees. Now, we can learn from each other more easily and grow in our work,” says Räisänen.

Mayor Joonas Hänninen presented the company with a numbered miniature of Leena Mäki-Patola’s artwork Elämän eväät (“Provisions for Life”), which won the Varkaus city art competition a few years ago, and congratulated Elcoline on its impressive growth story: “The new Varkaus unit is a great addition to the company’s already extensive industrial service portfolio and consolidates Elcoline’s operations in Varkaus within the historically rich Pirtinniemi area. The company’s future looks promising.”

The buildings now used by Elcoline date back to the first half of the 20th century and previously housed A. Ahlström Corporation’s machine shop until the mid-1990s.

The industrial maintenance unit operates in the 1940 extension.
  • Elcoline’s office spaces are located in both the oldest building on the site, completed in 1919, and the 1969 extension. The walls still feature historical images and elements from the A. Ahlström era.
